PLAY HARD • RECHARGE • REPEAT

At Recharge Sports Injury Center, we do not rely on the adjustment alone to help you recover. Keeping in mind the soft tissue imbalances that accompany the lack of joint motion, we believe in using an integrated multifaceted approach of treating a musculoskeletal condition. The chiropractic adjustment is a very effective and powerful treatment. However, in many situations, adjusting alone does not correct imbalances and dysfunction in the soft tissues, including: muscles, tendons, ligaments and nerves. We use a variety of manual therapy techniques to treat the soft tissues effectively, such as treatments based on the clinically proven Active Release Technique (ART), Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization, as well as Cold Laser and physiotherapy modalities. By complementing adjusting or solely using these soft tissue techniques, we can produce fast, effective and long-lasting results for patients' problems.

Chiropractic Care

Chiropractic care is the science, art and philosophy of manipulation (adjustment) of the human body. Chiropractic evaluation and treatment is directed at evaluating the cause of the problem through structural analysis of the musculo-skeletal systems of the body. Abnormal function of these systems can lead to abnormal function of the body's nervous system, which in turn may effect function of other systems in the body. Treatment is then rendered with the goal of restoring normal function by adjusting areas exhibiting abnormal structure.

Sports Therapy

Sports therapy is a combination of disciplines including chiropractic care, physical therapy, massage therapy, pilates and strength training. Electric stimulation, mechanical traction and ultrasound are frequently used as well. If you have sports related injuries, a combination of these disciplines will be used to develop a custom rehabilitation program to alleviate pain and improve performance.

Active Release Technique (A.R.T)

ART is a patented, state of the art soft tissue system/movement based massage technique that treats problems with muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia and nerves. Headaches, back pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, shin splints, shoulder pain, sciatica, plantar fasciitis, knee problems, and tennis elbow are just a few of the many conditions that can be resolved quickly and permanently with ART. These conditions all have one important thing in common: they are often a result of overused muscles.

How do overuse conditions occur?

Over-used muscles (and other soft tissues) change in three important ways:

  • acute conditions (pulls, tears, collisions, etc),

  • accumulation of small tears (micro-trauma)

  • not getting enough oxygen (hypoxia).

Graston Technique

Graston Technique is an evidence-based form of instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization that enables clinicians to effectively address scar tissue and fascial restrictions through comprehensive training, resulting in improved patient outcomes.

The technique uses specially-designed stainless steel instruments, along with appropriate therapeutic exercise, to specifically detect and effectively treat areas exhibiting soft tissue fibrosis or chronic inflammation. The instruments also are used diagnostically to follow the kinetic chain, to locate and treat the cause of the symptom as well as the specific area of pain.

Originally developed by athletes, Graston Technique® is an interdisciplinary treatment used by more than 21,750 clinicians worldwide — including physical and occupational therapists, hand therapists, chiropractors, and athletic trainers.

Dry Needling

Dry Needling is a general term for a therapeutic treatment procedure that involves multiple advances of a filament needle into the muscle in the area of the body which produces pain and typically contains a trigger point. There is no injectable solution and typically the needle that is used is very thin. Most patients will not even feel the needle penetrate the skin, but once it advances into the muscle, the discomfort can vary from patient to patient. Usually a healthy muscle feels very little discomfort upon insertion of the needle; however, if the muscle is sensitive and shortened or contains active trigger points, the subject may feel a sensation much like a muscle cramp, often referred to as a 'twitch response".

Cupping

Cupping is a modality of traditional Chinese medicine in which glass cups are suctioned to the skin using heat to create a vacuum. This therapy helps to eliminate toxins, relieve congestion, improve circulation and relieve muscle tension. The cups can be left stationary or slid along pre-oiled skin, depending on the ailment. While cups can be applied to just about any area of the body, it is common to have cupping performed on the back, neck, shoulders and thighs. Cupping is generally painless and can be as effective as massage for muscle problems. Versions of cupping can be found in many cultures from Latin America, Europe, the Middle East and Asia.

Therapeutic Ultrasound

Ultrasound is a therapeutic modality that has been used by physical therapists since the 1940's. Ultrasound is applied using a round-headed wand or probe that is put in direct contact with the patient’s skin. Ultrasound gel is used on all surfaces of the head in order to reduce friction and assist in the transmission of the ultrasonic waves. Therapeutic ultrasound is in the frequency range of about 0.8-3.0 MHz.

The waves are generated by a piezoelectric effect caused by the vibration of crystals within the head of the wand/probe. The sound waves that pass through the skin cause a vibration of the local tissues. This vibration can cause a deep heating locally though usually no sensation of heat will be felt by the patient. In situations where a heating effect is not desirable, such as a fresh injury with acute inflammation, the ultrasound can be pulsed rather than continuously transmitted.

Cold Laser Therapy

Cold Laser Therapy or Low Level Laser Therapy (LLLT) is a treatment that utilizes specific wavelengths of light to interact with tissue and is thought to help accelerate the healing process. It can be used on patients who suffer from a variety of acute and chronic conditions in order to help eliminate pain, swelling, reduce spasms and increase functionality.
